ESL Teacher · Curriculum, Assessment & Teacher Development
Bich Nguyen
M.A. TESOL Candidate, Brigham Young University
I teach learner-centered English courses to culturally and linguistically diverse adult students, and I build the curricula, materials, and assessments that support them — grounded in communicative and task-based teaching.
A note on how this site is organized
One proficiency scale, one classroom philosophy
Throughout my syllabi and assessments, I describe student growth along the ACTFL proficiency continuum — Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, and Superior. That same continuum runs through this portfolio as a visual thread, because it reflects how I actually think about teaching: as a series of concrete, observable steps toward a student doing more with English than they could before. It applies across the four skills (reading, writing, listening, and speaking) and the subskills that support them — grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary — all of which you'll see reflected in the syllabi, lesson plans, and assessments that follow.
- Novice
- Intermediate
- Advanced

See researchMy classroom teaching experience is with adult learners. For evidence of young-learner curriculum knowledge, see my evaluation of Vietnam's Ministry of Education Grade 1–2 national English curriculum — covering Total Physical Response, task-based, and project-based methods for 6–7-year-olds — on the Academic Research page. The core beliefs in my teaching philosophy (empowerment, respect, shared responsibility, safety, measurable growth) are age-general principles I'd carry into a K–12 setting.
