Materials & Curriculum

Original curriculum and instructional materials I've designed — from a full English-for-Specific-Purposes curriculum for law students, to a leveled writing unit, to an online course design.

English for Law Curriculum

A full four-skill (writing, reading, speaking, listening) curriculum built from a needs analysis of law students' academic and professional communication needs. Each skill area defines level descriptors across function, text, and comprehensibility, so students and instructors can see concretely what "adapting language to fit the audience, material, context, and time constraints" looks like in an academic-legal register — including expository, persuasive, and synthesis writing, and formal spoken registers.

Co-developed with classmates as a group project for my Curriculum and Materials Development course at Brigham Young University. My individual contribution was the speaking and listening strand: level descriptors, task types, and formal spoken-register benchmarks for law students.

Materials · Foundation B writing

Writing Materials — Foundation B

A three-lesson writing unit built around paragraph structure (topic sentences, supporting sentences), verb-tense review (present, past, and future simple, each with structure tables and graded exercises), and a dedicated editing-skills lesson (tense correction, capitalization, punctuation, and self-editing checklist). Each grammar point moves from controlled practice (fill-in-the-blank, sentence transformation) to freer, personalized production (paired interviews, short passages about the student's own life, a guided brainstorm-to-paragraph sequence built around a badminton reading). Includes a full teacher answer key for every closed-response exercise.

Materials · Advanced grammar — passive voice

Passive Voice Grammar Unit

A three-part grammar unit covering passive voice in all tenses and aspects, passive voice with reporting verbs, and choosing between active and passive voice. Each part follows the same structure: form and structure tables, meaning-and-use with worked examples, integrated reading/listening/speaking/writing practice built around a single topic, five graded form exercises, and a full teacher answer key with every question cross-referenced to its source passage.
